Church car show participants bask in fall sunshine

Some of the best car shows are held in the late summer or early fall, near the end of the exhibition season. Numerous exhibitors seize the year’s final opportunities to display their prized vehicles and socialize with other gearheads one more time before winter’s automotive hibernation.

Among the late-season events is the Vandalia Nazarene Church Car Show, whose 11th annual edition featured hundreds of restored classics and other special vehicles. The warm temperature and blue sky of Oct. 7 made the event, on the church’s spacious, level grass lawn, even more inviting. Exhibitors donated $10 per vehicle, and more than 90 handmade awards were presented. There was free admission for spectators. Volunteers prepared free food, including quickly gobbled-up chili and pulled-pork sandwiches, for which donations were accepted. Proceeds benefited the church’s mission activities.
